Design Week - SILS Packaging

Published 9th March 2016

Last week BGB SILS took part in the University of Derby's Design Week.  We set the students a brief to design an eco friendly, cost effective, practical yet stylish, and unique packaging that also protects the units for the new BGB SILS Master control unit and light.  The students had 4 days to prepare and present their findings and mock-up units to a panel that included Design Tutors and BGB SILS representatives in a 'Dragons Den' type meeting / competition.

There were 12 groups in total and all designs presented to us were to an extremely high standard. All groups followed the brief closely and some very well thought out concepts and designs were produced, including a stack-able octagonal and cylindrical box, Apple style packaging and a box that had considered transporting in bulk to boat builders.

The eventual winner had considered all aspects of the brief but had also gone into great detail on cost and adaptability of the box for SILS without the master unit. The group, that consisted of 5 students, won £250 worth of Amazon vouchers presented to them buy David Holt, Managing Director of BGB Innovation.

The University of Derby's College of Engineering and Technology are committed to developing the next generation of high-achieving scientists, technologists and engineers.  BGB SILS would like to take this opportunity to thank all involved for an excellent day of presentations and we will take on board lots of aspects of not only the winning design but also snippets of the others.

A superb effort, well done to all involved!
